How To Use EASYJoint For Patio Repointing
EASYJoint Original is a ready-to-use sweep-in paving jointing compound that removes the need for traditional mortar mixing. Here's how to prepare the patio and use it properly.

What Is EASYJoint Original?
EASYJoint Original is a ready-to-use paving jointing compound from Azpects. Instead of mixing sand and cement and individually packing mortar into every joint, EASYJoint is worked across wet paving and swept into the open joints.
It is designed to make the jointing stage faster and easier while still producing a properly filled and finished paving joint.
Why Use EASYJoint Instead Of Mortar?
Traditional mortar pointing works well when installed correctly, but it can be time consuming. EASYJoint removes the mixing stage and allows the compound to be swept across the paving and into the joints.
EASYJoint cannot repair loose paving, unsuitable drainage or joints that have not been cleaned out properly. Sort those problems before installing the new jointing compound.
Before You Buy EASYJoint
Check the existing joints before ordering. Azpects specifies a minimum joint width of 3mm and minimum depth of 20mm for EASYJoint Original.
That depth matters. Sweeping a thin layer across old mortar is not the same as filling a properly prepared joint.
The Important Bit: Your Patio Must Drain
EASYJoint Original is a permeable jointing solution and should be used with a free-draining paving installation.
The compound cures through contact with air. If water remains permanently trapped beneath the paving and the lower part of the joint cannot dry, curing can be affected.
If the patio remains permanently wet or has an impermeable construction underneath it, check that EASYJoint Original is suitable before starting.
Can You Use EASYJoint On An Old Patio?
Yes, provided the existing paving and construction are suitable. The old failed jointing material needs to be properly removed first.
Clean out the joints sufficiently to achieve the required width and depth. Don't simply sweep new EASYJoint across shallow remains of old pointing.

How To Use EASYJoint Original
The basic process is straightforward: soak the paving, pour out the compound, add water, sweep it into the joints, rinse and finish.
Pre-Soak The Paving
Thoroughly wet the paving before applying EASYJoint, particularly when working with porous natural stone.
Pour Out The EASYJoint
Pour the compound onto the thoroughly wetted paving and work across a manageable area at a time.
Add Water
Add water to form a slurry. This helps the compound move freely across the paving and down into the joints.
Sweep Into The Joints
Use a stiff broom or suitable squeegee to work the wet compound across the paving and into the open joints.
Check & Top Up
Check that every joint is properly filled and add more compound wherever required while everything remains wet.
Rinse The Paving
Thoroughly rinse the paving to remove remaining compound and residue from the surface.
Iron The Joints
Finish by striking or ironing the joints. This helps compact the material and produces a cleaner finished appearance.
Why Does EASYJoint Need So Much Water?
The amount of water can look unusual if you're used to traditional mortar pointing, but it is an important part of the EASYJoint installation method.
Water helps the compound move across the paving and flow down into the full depth of the joints. Keeping porous paving wet also helps protect the surface during installation.
EASYJoint cures through contact with air. Once installed, the paving construction needs to allow the joint to drain and dry.
One Person Can Do It. Two Is Easier.
On a larger patio, having one person controlling the hose while another sweeps the compound makes the installation much easier.
It also helps keep the paving consistently wet without leaving piles of compound sitting around while you fight with the hose.
Holding the hose, sweeping the patio and stopping the dog walking across the job simultaneously is technically possible. A second pair of hands is considerably easier.

The official Azpects demonstration is worth watching before starting. It shows the amount of water used and how the compound is worked into the joints.
EASYJoint Original Colours
EASYJoint Original is available in four colour options, allowing you to choose a joint that works with the paving rather than fighting against it.
Screen colours can vary and the product contains naturally sourced materials. Check the actual product where matching the paving is particularly important.
How Much EASYJoint Do I Need?
Coverage depends on the dimensions of the paving together with the width and depth of the joints.
Large paving slabs normally create considerably fewer metres of joint than the same patio area laid using smaller slabs. That means patio area alone isn't enough to calculate the number of tubs.
Check the patio area, paving dimensions, joint width and joint depth before working out how much compound the job needs.
Can You Keep Leftover EASYJoint?
Yes. One useful feature of EASYJoint Original is that opened material can be kept for another job.
Unused compound can be returned to the tub and stored beneath at least 50mm (2 inches) of water. Keeping the material submerged prevents air reaching it and stops the curing process.
Follow the current Azpects storage instructions when keeping partly used material for another job.
How Long Before You Can Walk On It?
Setting time varies with temperature, humidity and rainfall. Warm and dry weather normally allows the joint to firm up more quickly than cold or wet conditions.
Allow the material to properly harden before putting the patio back into normal use and follow the current manufacturer guidance for the conditions you're working in.
Common EASYJoint Mistakes
Original, Select, PRO Or Porcelain?
EASYJoint is now a range of products rather than one jointing compound. Different versions suit different applications and installation methods.
Other products in the EASYJoint range have different installation requirements. Always follow the instructions for the exact product you're using.
